Hiring a Social Media Manager

Social Media
Social Media

In working in the field of social media for a number of years, as well as earning a Master Degree in Social Media Management, I can honestly say that there is much more that goes into social media management than simply mindlessly posting status updates.   I highly recommend any small business hire a trained individual to manage their social media platforms. In doing so small business owners will see the benefits, not only from having extra time not having to manage their social media platforms, but also will also see first hand how a trained social media professional strategical implements a social media plan to obtain goals.

Now, I recently read a blog that was completely against hiring a social media manager, claiming that basically any individuals with this title are just scam artist.  To say the least I was more than  little upset by this bogus blog.  This individual clearly did not know anything about the amount of data collection and social media metrics that go into creating a killer social media platform.  Nor, did this individual consider the return on investment (ROI) calculations that need to be done in order to depict that  client’s investment in a social media manager is worthwhile.  Also, social media managers are also responsible for SEO, meaning optimizing your ability to be found on the internet using a vast amount of strategies to do so.  If you are a small business owner or an owner of large organization and have not yet hired a social media professional, I recommend doing your research and finding the most qualified candidate to manage your social media platforms!

Snapchat Utility

A brief overview of what Snapchat is; it is a photograph app. allowing users to set a time limit to how long the viewers can view the image. After the time limit is up the picture is then unable to be viewed and is deleted from the Snapchat server.  Snapchat is a very user friendly app that allows its users to constantly stayed connected with one another through the use of images, these images can be seen as a way to express one’s self nonverbally through the use of images.  This app is also geared towards and popular with a relatively young demographic between the ages of 18-23 years of age.  So, I wonder how this popular tool can be used for marketing and organizational use?  My thoughts are this is untapped resource, especially if your brand targets a younger demographic, to get a message across very quickly.  As I have stated before, we are the right now generation and time is precious.  When we want something we want it now, there is no time to sit around watch a full 1-2 minute commercial.  Therefore, I think it is time for business’ to start utilizing this vital tool to get their message across in a very short amount of time.  However, in using an app such as this one with a time limit, users must be very strategic in what message they wish to send to their consumers and to insure it is perceived the way it was intended.  While Snapchat may seem like a fun app  for personal use, however, this app should be strategically thought about how it can be used to connect with a younger demographic to get a message across, such as buy our product! Check out this article for some additional information on the growing popularity of Snapchat.  For access to the app check out the  Snapchat website.

Vine, an effective online marketing tool?

So, today I have been thinking about Vine videos and how numerous brands have started using this app as a marketing strategy. The following article describes the various brands that have developed an online marketing strategy using Vine http://goo.gl/0rUKoc I am curious about the effectiveness of using Vine to market one’s business online, is 6 seconds enough to convince a consumer to buy? Or are these 6 second video clips a vital tool to insure that you are reaching every online user? In my opinion I feel like these 6 second videos do have the power to impact us as consumers, as we are the right now generation. Meaning, we want things now and do not have the patience to watch a full 1-2 minute commercial, that is simply not an effective usage of our time. The social media world moves fast and in order to keep up with it, we must learn how to get as much information to our consumers in as little time as possible. Thoughts on the usage of Vine videos in online marketing?
